Pack Overnight Camp-out 9/29/07 - 9/30/07 3:00pm
Pack overnighters are pack-organized overnight camping activities involving more than one family from our pack, with the program focused on age-appropriate Cub Scout activities and conducted at a Council Approved Pack Camping Location. In a Pack Overnighter, each youth member must be under the supervision of a parent or guardian and, in all cases, each youth participant is responsible to a specific adult who is on the overnight. Siblings are welcome to participate. This year we will be camping at Washington Monument State Park - Youth Area 3. We look forward to seeing everyone there!
Mt. Airy Fall Festival 10/06/07 9:00am - 5:00pm 10/07/08 9:00am - 5:00pm
Each year Pack 1191 hosts a booth at the Mt. Airy Fall Festival. We sell drinks and offer hair painting. Our participation in this event is both a fund raiser for the pack and an opportunity to promote scouting within the community. This is a fun activity for all. Please be sure to sign up to help work the booth. Scouting for Food 11/03/07 & 11/10/07 10:00am
Across the country, nearly 4 million Scouts and adult leaders will distribute and collect bags of food for their local community food banks. Every Cub Scout Pack, Boy Scout Troop and Varsity Team, Venturing Crew and Exploring Post can make an impact in the four County area by supporting and participating our annual Good Turn. The Mount Airy Food Net will once again be receiving the collected food from Pack 1191. How can you help? Without a doubt, you can, and it’s easy. Make sure you keep the late mornings of November 3rd and 10th free so you can distribute and then collect the bags of food left on the porches and steps, from around your neighborhood. We will be meeting at the American Legion at 10am on each day of the drive to coordinate the teams. All it takes is a couple of hours, and you’ll have been involved in one of the nation’s biggest food drives. Pinewood Derby 1/26/08 9:30am
Every Winter Pack 1191 races cars that we build from kits down a race track at a special Saturday Pack Meeting in January. This event is eagerly anticipated by everyone in the pack. Adults and siblings can build and race their cars as well, although their times are not factored into the scout's racing competition. Registration will take place at the American Legion the Friday before the Pack Meeting. Cars will be officially weighed, measured and inspected for their compliance with official rules. Should there be the need for any last minute adjustments, a work table will be provided. Once your car has been registered and assigned a number your vehicle will be impounded by the Pinewood Derby officials for racing the next day. Blue and Gold Banquet 2/24/08 4:30pm - 8:00pm
Cub Scouts celebrate Scouting Anniversary Week with a celebration called the Blue and Gold Banquet. Our annual Blue and Gold banquet occurs at our pack meeting for the month of February. It is the highlight of the year and brings families together for an evening of fun and inspiration. This dinner banquet is a way to celebrate the pack's anniversary, recognize pack leaders and other adults who have been instrumental in the pack's success, and inspire the leaders, Scouts, and parents. Additionally, there is a themed cake baking contest, entertainment, and items for sale... including items that scouts can purchase using their "Cubby Bucks" which they have accumulated over the year. Arrow of Light 3/26/08 7:00pm
The Arrow of Light ceremony honors a Scout's achievements on their journey through Cub Scouts... from Tiger Cubs through Webelos. We hope that everyone within the pack attends this event as our 2nd year Webelos graduate to Boy Scouts. Our ceremony is held each year at the Winding Trails Boy Scout Camp. Cubmobile Races 5/18/08 1:00pm
Every summer Pack 1191 races carts that we have built down Cottonwood Drive located between the firehouse and Wagner's Meatlocker. We take every measure possible to ensure safety during this event and each driver is required to wear a bicycle helmet. The kids really love this event! We'll need many volunteers to act as time keepers, pit crew, and starters. We'll see you there.
Flag Planting at
Veteran's Graves 5/18/08 6:00pm
Each year just before Memorial Day Pack 1191 plants flags at the graves of each Veteran placed to rest in the
Prospect Methodist Church Cemetary to honor their service and sacrifice for our country. This is one of the most spiritually rewarding events of the year for each scout and everyone in attendance.
Memorial Day Service at Pine Grove Chapel 5/26/08
On Memorial Day, Pack 1191 joins the town of Mount Airy to recognize our Veterans who have made the ultimate sacrifice so that we may all be free. We wear our uniforms and meet at Pine Grove Chapel on Main Street to join in the ceremony. Bridging Ceremony 5/31/08 7:00pm
The end of the Cub Scout year is marked with our Bridging Ceremony. While our 2nd year Webelos graduated to become Boy Scouts in March during the Arrow of Light, the Bridging Ceremony is the graduation point of the rest of our Cub Scouts. Tigers move on to the rank of Wolves, Wolves become Bears, and Bears move on to become Webelos. After the ceremony we gather for celebratory potluck barbecue. This event is also held at the Winding Trails Boy Scout Camp. Lion's Carnival 6/2 - 6/7/2008
At the beginning of June the Mount Airy Lion's have their annual carnival. Pack 1191 takes part in helping install light bulbs for the event. In return the Lion's provide our pack with a booth which allows us to raise funds for the pack. We run the famed "Basket Toss" game. We'll need as many volunteers as possible to "step right up!" Scout Night at the Keys 6/28/08
At the end of June, Frederick's professional baseball team the Keys host their annual Scout Night Sleepover. Scouts from all over the area get to watch the nights game at a discount, and then are treated to a tent campout in the outfield. There's even a movie shown on the video billboard. Additional Information. Cub Scout Day Camp 7/7 - 7/11/2008
An organized, week-long, summertime program for Scouts under certified leadership held during the day, in a local community park. For the last several years, our day camps have been at Woodsboro Park and Walkersville Community Park. Cub Scout Resident Camp TBD
