Despite being threatened by rain, last month’s Bridging ceremony was a relatively dry success (except for the humidity). The potluck dinner was once again a delicious treat, and the new first-year Webelos who camped out (along with the new second-year Webelos) discovered that “roughing it” can include pancakes for breakfast! Thank you to Mayor Johnson for joining us for the festivities, and to everyone who brought delicious food to share. Please note that we will start at least one hour earlier next year, so that the ceremony isn’t so dark! The Lions Carnival has come and gone, and more than just a few balls were tossed at the peach baskets in our pack’s booth. Thank you to the Lions Club for donating the booth (including the prizes), and thank you to everyone who helped screw in the light bulbs, staff the booth, and unscrew the light bulbs. Our Fundraising Chair and Treasurer will report the income earned at our next Leaders Meeting (June 13th). It’s hard to believe that our scouts have already bridged and another school year is coming to an end. Note, however, that while school may be out soon, scouting activities do go on… or at least, we’d like them to. Unfortunately, we have yet to get volunteers to coordinate any summertime activities; coordinating an activity consists of choosing the day, time, and location, disseminating information, making travel arrangements (e.g., arranging carpools or just providing directions), and making sure there are enough adults to chaperone. The Committee has brainstormed a list of candidate summertime activities that the scouts would enjoy and that should be relatively easy and inexpensive to run over the summer: Hiking (e.g., Sugarloaf Mountain), Fishing Derby, Cubmobile Races, D.C. Sightseeing, Bike Rodeo, Float for VFC Parade (July), Bowling, Naval Academy visit (August), Outdoor Movie (e.g., “Down and Do you have engineering and/or carpentry skills? If so, we need a little bit of your time and expertise! We still need a volunteer to help plan a scout storage unit that will be located outside of the American Legion’s building. The Boy Scout Troop is moving out on this fast, and we will lose the opportunity to influence the plan unless someone volunteers to coordinate with the Troop on the plan for this storage unit. Contact Paul or myself if you can help. The newsletter Pack Happenings has been discontinued for lack of contributions and apparent lack of interest. If you are interested in reading future issues, please let me know and I will resume publication of the newsletter. Our Pack Committee includes our Cubmaster and Assistant Cubmasters, Den Leaders, Advancement Chair, Treasurer, Fundraising Chair, Webmaster, Chartered Organization Representative, myself, and other parents interested in helping run the pack. We meet once a month, usually at the Cubmaster's home, and all parents are welcome to participate. Our Pack Calendar contains the details (see “Leaders Meeting” items) as well as information about upcoming events; note however that this schedule is subject to change, and other activities may be added, based on interest and resource availability.
